At Pastr, we believe your clipboard data is personal and should stay that way. This Privacy Policy explains how Pastr handles your data. The short version: your data stays on your device.
By using Pastr, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Data We Collect
Clipboard Data
Pastr monitors your clipboard to provide clipboard history functionality. This includes:
- Text you copy
- Images you copy
- Files you copy
- URLs and links
- Rich text content
- The source application of each clipboard item
All clipboard data is stored locally on your Mac. We do not upload, transmit, or access your clipboard data in any way.
iCloud Sync (Pinned Items Only)
If you choose to pin items, these are synced via your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This data is:
- Stored in your private iCloud container
- Accessible only to you across your devices signed into the same Apple ID
- Protected by Apple's security and privacy standards
- Not accessible to us or any third parties
What We Don't Collect
- We don't collect analytics or usage data
- We don't collect crash reports
- We don't collect any personal information
- We don't have servers that receive your data
Privacy Features
Pastr includes built-in privacy protections:
- Password Manager Protection: Automatically ignores clipboard content from password managers like 1Password, Keychain Access, and the Passwords app.
- Transient Content Filtering: Ignores temporary or auto-generated clipboard data.
- App Exclusions: You can configure specific apps whose clipboard content will never be saved.
- Screen Sharing Mode: Option to hide Pastr during screen sharing sessions.
Data Storage
Your clipboard history is stored locally on your Mac using Core Data. The data is stored in your user's Application Support folder and is protected by your macOS user account permissions.
You have full control over your data:
- Configure how many items to keep (default: 100 items)
- Set retention period (default: 30 days)
- Clear all history at any time from settings
- Uninstalling Pastr removes all local data
Third-Party Services
Link Previews
When you copy a URL, Pastr may fetch metadata (title, favicon) to display a rich preview. This feature:
- Makes direct requests to the URL you copied
- Does not route through our servers
- Can be disabled in settings if you prefer
Apple iCloud
Pinned items sync via iCloud CloudKit, which is governed by Apple's privacy policies. This sync is optional and can be disabled.
Permissions
Pastr requires the following permissions:
- Accessibility: Required to simulate keyboard events for the paste functionality
These permissions are used solely for the app's core functionality and not for any data collection purposes.
Children's Privacy
Pastr is a general productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
